History made as part of good track season.

Though the seasons for this year's girls and boys track teams were different, both were good. The girls, despite having no short distance runners, were fourth at region. Five qualified for state, they finished 12th. The boys repeated as region champions and finished state runner up, the best boys finish in BCHS history.

Arkenzio Hayes qualified for state in the triple jump and was a member of the boys 4x100 team.


Wednesday night was recognition for both teams in the high school auditorium. As athletes received their certificates, he had seniors in attendance step forward. Cranford said while the seniors would be missed, both teams had good talent coming back next year.

Region champions received plaques. Those who finished in the top eight at sectionals and advanced to the finals were recognized. Boys team members Will Simmons, Torenio Davis, and Carl Ellis Corley were recognized twice.

Jaylen Thigpen won region in the 800 meter run.


Once for breaking school records (Davis- high jump, Simmons- pole vault, Corley- 800 meter run.) The other for winning state titles. Davis in high jump, Simmons in pole vault, and Corley for both the 1,600 and 3,200 meter runs.

Carl Ellis Corley gets a hug from Caldwell as he's presented a silver cup for "being the most decorated athlete in BCHS history.


Track and field MVP's were based upon points scored. Girls track- Austin Perez. Girls field- Faith Harris. Boys track MVP went to Corley, Simmons field. Nykeem Farrow was named the combo track and field MVP for scoring the most points in both track and field events.

A final award went to Corley for winning five state titles (two cross country, three in track.) Congratulations to all the winners.
