At last night's monthly Board of Education meeting, a millage rate of 14.334 mills was adopted. This was the tentative rate set at the July 27 called meeting. According to meeting minutes, it's a reduction of the current rate of 14.339 mills.

The board thanked 17 businesses and individuals who contributed a total of $7,500 to the REACH Scholarship Fund. Their donations allowed five scholarships to be fully funded for the 2017-18 school year.

As part of the facilities report by Superintendent Steve Smith, an update on the gym expansion project at BCHS was presented. The weight room is in use following a final walkthrough and punch list creation August 10. The BCHS Touchdown Club will purchase weights for the new weight room with the old weights being donated to BCMS.

Once the new weights are installed, the board will conduct a final walkthrough tentatively set for the October 17 monthly meeting. A final accounting of the project will be presented at the September 17 meeting.

From the executive session, the board affirmed the transfer of Regina Smith from Executive Director of CIS/Family Connection Collaborative to Rural Health Network Regional Project Director and promoted current 21st Century Program Director Pamela Moore to CIS/Family Connection Executive Director.

Derrick Farrow, hired last month as a parapro and serving as an assistant football coach, will have more coaching duties at BCHS. He was added to the athletic staffing plan as an assistant boys JV and varsity basketball coach as well as assistant high school track coach.
