BCHS looked to build on last week’s good opening performance at Houston County Saturday at the Raider Rumble. The Royals faced lots of competition as there were nine teams in the AA division including three region opponents.
A large group of purple and gold supporters made the short trip to Dexter. The chant of “Bleckley County!” could be heard as the squad prepared to enter. They roared as Lorde’s “Royals” welcomed BC to the mat.
Unlike the song however, Bleckley was vey “Royal” in their performance. No deductions of any kind. Crisp motions, high energy, sharp tumbling. The pyramid stuck, everything went well. Fans were so excited some stood and applauded when the squad came back to the stands.
For the second week in a row, BC won the longest lib (lib off) competition. Shy Chambers, Abigail Kirkland, Alexis Johnson, and Caroline Mathis outlasted the other squads. But that wouldn’t be the only thing Bleckley had to celebrate.

Excitement built as the top three were announced. Third place, Bacon County. Second place, Screven County. Then the first of two announcements by Brad Meeks would send the squad and supporters into a frenzy. “And first place for the AA division goes to…. Bleckley County High School!” Meeks would then announce that Bleckley was awarded the grand champion. It’s the award for the overall highest score of all teams competing.

That caused more shouts of joy from those wearing purple and gold. The grand championship is the first in years for BCHS. September 30, the Royals will travel to Ola High School in McDonough.
