Friday night’s home opener against Telfair County was the first matchup between the Royals and Trojans since the early 90’s. Though a big lead was cut to single digits late, a pair of big plays helped preserve the win.

Following a stop of Telfair at the Royal 37, Nykeem Farrow went 58 yards to the Trojan 10. He scored from two yards on fourth and goal from the two with 5:41 left. BC faced another fourth down situation on their next possession, fourth and 10 from the Telfair 20. Zach Lassiter hit Bryce Bailey in the end zone with 26 seconds left as the Royals went up 14-0.

Bleckley had their only turnover of the game in the second quarter, an interception in the end zone, stopping a drive at the Trojan 16. Farrow got his second touchdown run of the game with 4:57 left. The BC defense scored their first touchdown of the season when John Newbern picked off a Trojan pass and went 70 yards for six points with 1:11 left. The half ended with Telfair being stopped on the Royal 38.

John Newbern had a 70-yard interception for six points.

The Trojans got on the board in the third on a touchdown run with 7:58 left. Lassiter to Marcus Brown soon provided the answer, a 29-yard catch and run. Telfair scored again on a 16-yard run with 3:53 left. The point after failed but it was 35-13. Things got closer in the fourth.

Zack Stanley is one of several players in on a a stop.

A two-point conversion failed but the lead had been cut to 35-26. Telfair recovered the onside kick on Bleckley’s 35. Willie Chambers though forced a fumble on the 45. Farrow ran the ball to the Trojan 15 and BC ran out the clock as they hung on 35-26.
