Roy Veal has a fan club in the third grade class of Mi Waters,

Though Bleckley County and Swainsboro have often gone years without playing, they've had some memorable games. In 1991, an opening kickoff return proved to be the only score as the Tigers edged Bleckley 8-0.

Bleckley picked up its largest win between the two schools when they knocked off top-ranked Swainsboro 23-20 in 1993. Since then, the teams have met twice, both matchups going the Tigers way.

Cederic Rumph handled kickoff duties.

The Royals would try to reverse that trend Friday night. This was the first game experience for the Royals as both attempts to scrimmage Hawkinsville were rained out thanks to Tropical Storm Fay. After holding the Tigers on their first possession, an interception on BCHS' first drive put SHS on the Bleckley 24. That led to a score and with 7:25 left, Swainsboro led 7-0.

Long runs by Roy Veal helped Bleckley get to the Tigers 21 on BCHS' second possession. But they were stopped on fourth down. Swainsboro would score their only non-turnover influenced points in the second as they drove from the Royal 38 to the seven then scored with 8:38 left.

The Royal defense made a stand as another interception at the 6:42 mark gave the Tigers another shot. But a group of Royals led by Payne Tripp kept the score at 14-0. That stand though was short-lived as an interception on the next play led to another Tiger score as Bleckley found itself down 21-0 with 4:40 left in the second.

Bleckley fans were out in force, including these two who wore their sunglasses at night.

BCHS appeared to be driving late in the half as they moved from their own 35 to the Tigers five. But a fumble into the end zone with 3:22 remaining in the half. BCHS was down 21-0 at halftime.

Bleckley tried to mount another dive on their opening possession of the third. A roughing the passer penalty helped move opening position from their own 23 to the 38. Though a 14-yard pickup by Vidal Nelson and another Veal run got Bleckley as close as the Swainsboro 40, penalties moved them back to the 45.

Facing third and 19, another interception stopped the drive. The Tigers drove to the Bleckley two, and with 8:29 left, a quarterback sneak put the Tigers up 27-0. That would prove to be the final score.

The Royal Kingsmen Band and Dazzlers did songs with a purple theme including music from Deep Purple.

Turnovers proved to be a difference as the Royals had four interceptions and three fumbles lost. Roy Veal had 87 yards on 10 carries. Jacob Byram had 69 yards on seven carries. Walker Meadows had three catches for 18 yards.
