A special softball season celebrated.

The 2008 season was a year of firsts for Lady Royals softball. It was the first year for new coach Christie Bergh. It was also the first time Bleckley saw itself ranked in the top 10.

The menu included bbq, potato salad, pork 'n beans, and a variety of deserts.


Though the season ended in region, it was also the first 20-win season for BCHS in recent years. Thursday night, the team, coaches, and family members gathered in the First Baptist Church fellowship hall to celebrate the memories of a successful year.

Trent Dykes, who drove the team this season, blessed the catered meal of bbq. While guests enjoyed their meal, a Powerpoint slide show was displayed on two screens The show featured both senior pictures as well as highlights from the season.

It was then time for awards. The coaching staff took turns presenting. Avery Purser was named best offensive player. Jill Couch got best defensive player. Kayla Dykes won the spirit award. Ashley Lucas was named most improved player.

Marlee Bryan recieves her most improved plaque.


Marlee Bryan won the coach's award. Lana Maddox recieved a newly created award, the hustle award. Kaitlynn Darsey was named MVP. Darsey and Couch were recognized as being All-Region honorable mentions. Purser was recognized as making the All-Region team. Darsey was also the recipient of the Heather Dixion memorial spirit and leadership award.

The senior girls look over the picture albums given to them.


Olivia Swanson gave the senior players picture albums. Jane and Darren Garner were recognized for being at every Lady Royals game this year. The senior players presented photo momentos to the coaches. Coach Bergh ended the evening thanking the players for a great season and the parents for their support.
