History isn't made easy. Since rejoining the MGMSAA, no BCMS basketball team has ever made the championship game. It took two overtimes, but this year's Lady Barons team became the first to do so.

Baskets by Ieshia Gainey and Tia Troup about three minutes into the first erased a 2-0 deficit. The teams were tied 7-7 after one. WLMS went over three minutes without scoring in the second but Bleckley only scored four points. WL used a 9-0 run over the final 2:47 to lead 16-11 at the break.

Irianna Moss sets for a three.

The Lady Raiders led by as many as seven in the third. Bleckley scored the final six points to draw within 22-21. Both teams had leads between one and two points in the fourth. A free throw with 46 seconds left put BCMS up 28-26. WLMS tied the score six seconds later.

This breakaway layup by Myesha Moore as time expired gave the Lady Barons their margin of victory Friday.

No scoring happened in the final 40 seconds, sending the game into overtime. The Lady Royals had a 34-32 lead late but the Lady Raiders sent the game into a second overtime on a basket with 28 seconds left. Bleckley took an early two-point lead in the third session by hitting two of four free throws (foul shots and technical foul.)

Players and coaches congratulate the starters after Friday's win.

West Laurens had their only lead of the game on a three. BCMS split free throws and regained the advantage. Up 39-37 with 57 seconds left, WL would not get the game-tying shot this time. Myesha Moore's layup as time expired made the final score 41-37.

Cheerleaders and fans cheer after the Bleckley win.

The Lady Barons will play for the MGMSAA championship Saturday morning at Dodge County Middle School. Tip time is 10 am.
