In past seasons, Dublin High School has been a thorn in the side of Royals baseball. Not this year. Bleckley dominated the Irish, winning all three games. It was a point of pride for head coach Brad Davis, who pointed it out during his remarks at Tuesday's baseball awards banquet.

For the second straight season, Bleckley missed the state playoffs by one inning. However, they had an improved season overall. Their 13-11 record was their best since 2009. Bleckley also had two players of the year as part of all-region team selections.

It was all part of the evening that saw coaches, parents, and their families enjoy a meal of steak and baked potato. A photo slideshow featured many season highlights. JV and varsity players were recognized, all received certificates.

Davis praised the seniors for their effort and leadership. He said it was a "great ride" and hoped they'd come back to visit. All-Region selections were recognized. Of Gary Arnold, who handled JV coaching duties and presented the JV award, Davis called him a "BCHS Royals Encyclopedia."

The JV award, "Most Promising JV Player" was shared by Austin Williams and Austin Simmons. Varsity awards, presented by Davis, were as follows. Best Offense, Defense, and MVP: Chastain Coleman. Coaches Award: Cal Young and Brantley Collins. Captain's Award: Kace Kirkpatrick and Cody Bradley.

Senior players presented Davis a picture blanket. On behalf of the booster club, president Rusty Trice had gifts for the coaches and plaques of appreciation for Mike and Joy Smith for their years of service to the Dugout Club. During his closing remarks, Davis said he looked forward to coming to work each day.

He said he was glad to be able to work with such a great group and didn't consider what he did a job. After a couple of housekeeping announcements, Rusth Pastor Todd Bishop said a benediction.
