Reverend Father (Desmond Josiah) and the other priests sing Maria. The other priests were Sam Knighton, Ben DeLoach and Mackenzie Bond.

Friday night, Bleckley Summer Theatre Camp did indeed present "The Sound Of Music." Anyone familiar with the famous Rogers and Hamerstein musical recognized characters such as Maria, Captain von Trapp, and Elsa. Even those not familiar likely knew some of the songs such as "My Favorite Things."

Reverend Father and Maria (Dawson Greer) sing "My Favorite Things."

There did have to be a few alterations. Rather than a Mother Abbess, Desmond Josiah (a camp counselor) was playing Reverend Father. There were several priests rather than nuns. Those were needed explained Kelli Greer and Mi Waters before the show started because of having more male actors rather than female. Plus, two campers fell ill this week.

Captain Georg von Trapp (Noah Shedd) has his children introduce himself. The children were: Lisel (Chole Mullis), Fredrich (Joseph Stewart), Lucas (Alec Clouse), Kurt (Eli NeSmith), Marta (Sara Green), Louis (Beau DuBois) and Johann (Eli Mullis.)

But as the old saying goes "The Show Must Go On." Indeed it did, and audience members were treated to many of the same familiar songs and moments from the show. Dawson Greer's voice filled the auditorium as she walked on stage singing "The Sound Of Music." Captain von Trapp (Noah Shedd) had his infamous whistle at the begining to summon the seven children.

Rolf (also played by Sam Knighton) and Liesl perform (Sixteen going on seventeen.)

Else (Abigail Kirkland) schemed to become von Trapp's wife. The von Trapp children melted the hearts of audience members including humorously honest Louis (Beau DuBois) and love-stricken Liesl (Chloe Mullis.) Her brother Eli was the youngest von Trapp child Johann. John Howard provided some comedy relief as Kaltzberg Festival promoter Max Detweiler with lines like "I like the way I live around rich people."

Else (Abigail Kirkland) at first saw Maria as a threat before learning of her plans to return to the Abbey.

There are serious themes in the play Many intertwine such as making choices (Captain von Trapp refusing a commission to join the German Navy), Liesl's love interest Rolf the Messenger (Sam Knighton) choosing join the Germans and threatening the family, Else leaving after von Trapp refused to join Germany.

Max (John Howard) was the concert promoter trying to get the best musical act for the festival.

Another theme was facing your feelings and hot hiding. Reverend Father counseled Maria that the Abbey walls were not meant to shield her from her feelings. Maria would later counsel Liesl boarding school would not be a solution to her resentment toward Else when it looked like she would be their new mother.

Else and others are agahst as von Trapp and Maria dance.

In the end, von Trapp and Maria confess their feelings for each other and wed. After performing a reprise of "So Long, Farewell" at the festival, they escape through the mountains that Maria says in the begining she knows so well to Switzerland. The cast recieved a standing ovation after a reprise of "Do Re Mi."

Louis sings "So Long, Farewell" at the party to introduce Else.

You have two more chances before the show must say "auf Wiedersehen, good night." Saturday at 2 and 7 pm.

Maria and Reverend Father sing "Climg Ev'ry Mountain."

The children are overjoyed after Maria returns singing "My Favorite Things." She had returned to the Abbey, fearful of her feelings for von Trapp.

Else is distraught after learning of Rolf's decision to go and fight for Germany.

von Trap and Maria sing a reprise of "So Long, Farewell." Little did poor Max know that it would indeed be farewell as the family escaped after performing. Max was left flustered after trying to announce the family von Trapp as the singing contest winners.
