At 8 am Saturday morning, there were fifteen teams still playing in this year's Bleckley County Church League Softball Tournament. By the end of the night, one in both name and number, remained.

Phillip Manning tries to get something going for Mt. Calvary.

Games were played at both Ruth and Limestone and a four-team mini tournament took place at House of Grace. There, defending champion First Baptist Church team one began the day by beating Macedonia Baptist and advanced to the championship series with a second win over HOG team three.

Caleb Slaughter was one of three Bleckley players on Mt. Zion's team along with Adriene Allen and Dylan Churchwell.

Pre tournament favorite Mt. Calvary made it to the field final at Limestone after edging First Baptist Church team two in eight innings. However, they were taking on at hot Mt. Zion team that had beaten New Life Church of God and eliminated FBC 2 in extra innings.

Mt. Zion won twice to clinch their championship series berth. Meanwhile at Ruth where the finals would be held, Bethany Baptist won against Ruth then beat a Lakeview team that had come through the loser's backet to the field final. Bethany and FBC 1 squared off first in the title series.

This tag ended the field final between Lakeview Baptist and Bethany.

Todd Dupree homered as FBC went to the title game 8-4. Christopher Haynes homered for Bethany as they stayed alive 3-1, eliminating Mt. Zion. In the title game, two runs by Bethany in the top of the seventh broke a scoreless tie. Despite a Dupree solo homer, Bethany forced a game two 2-1.

Bethany's Jordy Kirkpatrick is unable to avoid the tag of FBC 1's Aubrey Floyd.

FBC though would jump out to a 5-0 lead in game two and go on to win their third straight tourney title 9-4. The second place finish for Bethany marks their best in several years.

Congratulations to both teams on great tournaments.

Members of First Assembly of God were on hand at the finals to receive the sportsmanship award. Voted on by other teams, it's given to the team who displays the best attitude during the tournament each year.
