Members of the Runnin' Royals were recognized before Friday's game. Both the boys and girls were the top public school team at last weekend's state cross country meet.

The post season hadn't been kind to Bleckley recently. Despite making two straight appearances and hosting a home game last year, the Royals lost both. Friday, they hoped to break that skid against Bryan County.

On their opening possession, Bleckley fumbled at their 45. Bryan's Nick Scott scored from five yards out with 5:26 left. The point after missed but it was 6-0. A potential game-tying drive in the second ended with a fumble on the Redskin 11. Late in the half, a touchdown pass was dropped on fourth and 15 from the 25

Aided by a pass interference and unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and the third, Bleckley was on the Redskin five. Mario McClendon took it in with 8:38 left as BCHS went up 7-6. The Royal defense got their second fourth down stop on Bryan's next drive when the Redskins went for it on fourth and 15 from the 20.

In the fourth, with the Redskins driving, Tavon Ross picked off a pass at the Bryan 15. He would cut around and go 90 yards for the score. With 7:21 left in the game, it was 14-6. Bryan quickly answered on Jeremy McClendon's 22-yard touchdown pass to Raekwon Love.

D'Andre Pitts has been a top target for Tavon Ross this season.

Scott scored the conversion and it was tied at 14. With seconds left, Bleckley attempted a 45-yard field goal. It bounced off the left upright, and the game went to overtime.

Like in college, both teams had four shots from the 20. Bryan was stopped on fourth down. Antavias Robertson went in from 14 yards out on second down as the Royals won their first playoff game since 2006 20-14. Robertson had 49 yards on 20 carries. Jeremy Marshall had 50 yards on ten carries.

Ross completed four of eight passes for 46 yards. All were caught by D'Andre Pitts. Scott was the Bryan offense, going for 175 yards on 32 carries.

Fans were into Friday's game.

Head coach Tracy White said a playoff win was what they'd been after since he came. White said the overtime game "liked to have made me have a heart attack." He said the first half was "absolutely horrible" because of mistakes such as penalties and turnovers.

After having 97 yards of offense in the first half, Bleckley had 133 in the second. White said halftime wasn't as much about adjustments as it was settling the team down because they knew that mistakes were the reason they trailed before coaches said a word.

Next week's game will be at seventh ranked Brooks County. White said that at this point, everyone who won tonight would play a tough team next week. He added "Somebody's gonna win state, we might be playing them Friday night. But there's 16 people left, we're one of them. We're gonna get ready for Brooks County and give them all we can."

Caleb Wynne and Pitts make sure Antavias Robertson is ok after scoring the game-winning touchdown.

Kickoff is 8 pm next Friday in Quitman.
