Track teams have good day at sectionals. ***Updated April 29***

Shamar Slappy was second, Cord Yearty fifth, in boys discus.


It was qualifying day at Lamar County High School. Those who finished in the top eight at region track were there to earn state berths. Eight boys qualified in eight events while the girls qualified in five events.

Eli Belflower was second in his heat of the 800 meter run.


Boys qualifiers. Antavis Robertson- high jump. Shamar Slappy and Cord Yearty- discus. Joseph Arnold and Will Simmons- pole vault. Eli Belflower- 1600 and 800 meter run. Mario McClendon- 100 and 200 meter dash (overall top time in both events.)
Logan Bridges- 3200 meter run.

Logan Bridges was fifth in the 3200.


Girls qualifiers- 4x100 team (Dewanda Blackshear, Alondria Clemons, Felisia Young, Ellen Powell. Note: Tia Troup was unavailable but will be going to state in the 4x100. Powell was the overall top finisher in both the 800 and 1600 meter runs. Young qualified in the 100 meter dash.

Dewanda Blackshear will be making her first trip to state as part of the 4x100 team.


Madison Powell- 800 meter run. Clemons qualified in the 100 meter hurdles. Samantha Miller and Shannon Purvis- 3200 meter run.

Alondria Clemons qualified in the 100 meter hurdles for a second straight year.


Girls state is May 1-3 in Albany at Hugh Mills Stadium. Boys state is May 8-10 at Jefferson High School.

Ellen Powell will be making a return trip to Albany.


Samantha Miller and Shannon Purvis were close together at region in the 3200, both qualified for state.
