For Royal football fans, Friday night was a first taste. A chance to see how this year's football team would look with last week's intersquad scrimmage rained out. The band, cheerleaders, and a large crowd were inside Royal Stadium to see the scrimmage versus Irwin County High School.

Both teams played starters for the first three quarters. The Indians went for it on fourth and two from their own 28 in the first but were stoped. Bleckley couldn't capitalize. In the second IC got a pair of fourth down conversions, the first on fourth and four from the Royal 31.

Following a second fourth down conversion, Irwin's DJ Pollard dashed 14 yards to score. The PAT made it 7-0 with 11:27 left. BCHS answered with 5:41 remaining in the half on Cody Evans' 33-yard touchdown pass to Antavis Robertson. Cody Arnold kicked home the tying extra point.

The official watches as Antavis Robertson scores.

Robertson would suffer a knee injury late in the half after deflecting and nearly picking off a pass. He didn't return and was described by head coach Tracy White as "questionable" for next week.

In the third, Tae Holiday's touchdown run put the Royals on top with 9:37 left. The Royals appeared to have another drive going on their next possession but were stopped on fourth and two from the Indian 21.
