Willie Taylor scores.

It was the resumption of a longtime rivalry when the Royals made the short trip to Hawkinsville. BC, winners of three of the last four versus the Devils, sought to continue that success as well as rebound from last week's opening loss at defending Class A champion Clinch County.

Nykeem Farrow returned the opening kickoff 51 yards to the Red Devil 29 but Bleckley would be stopped on fourth and 24. Hawkinsville got to the BC 20 in the final minutes of the first then scored from two yards out with 32 seconds left to go up 7-0. Another Royal drive would stall in the second, unable to convert fourth and three from the Devil 45.

Keyshon Beck had 28 second half yards.

Willie Taylor would tie the score with 6:02 left in the half, going 59 yards. In the third, Hawkinsville drove to the Royal 23 but was stopped on fourth and three. Farrow broke BC's second long run of the game, going 46 yards on the ensuing possession. With 7:55 left, the Royals led 14-7.

An onside kick was recovered by BCHS at the Devil 32 but the drive stalled at their 27. Hawkinsville tied the game up in the fourth, getting a 32-yard touchdown run on fourth and two from the Royal 32. Dawson Mitchum returned the ensuing kickoff 29 yards to the Bleckley 49 but the drive stalled.

Fans were into the game using their cellphones as lights.

HHS got to the BC 27 with under 30 seconds left but a procedural penalty wiped out what would've been a game winning touchdown. Bleckley, backed up deep with time running out, let the game go to overtime. Each team would get four chances from the 15. The Red Devils scored on second down, BCHS fumbled on third down and lost 21-14.

A host of Royals team up on the tackle.

Farrow accounted for nearly half of the Royals 207 total yards, rushing for 100 on 21 carries. He also had 71 return yards. Besides the 59-yard run, Taylor caught two balls for nine yards. BC's defense held Hawkinsville to 98 total yards in the second half but were flagged for consecutive offsides penalties during the Devils extra point attempt during overtime. They accounted for two of the six second half penalties for 35 yards.

Bleckley opens home play September 2 against Treutlen High School at 7:30 pm.
