Governor Nathan Deal visited Bleckley County Middle School for the first signing ceremony of the REACH Georgia Scholar Program. Reach was started by Deal in 2012 to help provide lower income students who demonstrate academic potential greater access to colleges and universities.

Governor Nathan Deal presents School Superintendent Steve Smith with a certificate recognizing Bleckley's participation in the REACH program.

This was Bleckley's first year of participation in REACH. They're one of 69 counties involved. Five middle school students participated in the ceremony: Zyon Pasby, Quadavious Johnson, Jayda James, Hope Dominy, Demetreon Wells. Students were selected by teachrers then were interviewed by a pannel of judges.

Audience members give a standing ovation after the students signed their scholarships.

The students must follow certain guidelines to maintain their scholarships including maintaining a 2.5 GPA, meeting with academic mentors and advisors, as well staying out of trouble. To learn more about the REACH program, visit reachga.org
