The Royals and new head coach Von Lassiter will play their first official football game at home August 18. Friday night was one last time to work on things as BCHS traveled to the Horseshoe in Dexter to scrimmage West Laurens. Though mostly played like a regular football game, special teams activity was limited. No kickoff nor punt returns, no attempts to block extra points.

Several Royal defenders are in on the play.

The Raiders struck first on a touchdown pass with 5:17 left in the first. Micah Floyd connected with Torenio Davis on a 67-yard catch and run less than a minute later to tie the score. In the second, the Royals appeared set to take the lead after a l9-yard run by Nykeem Floyd to the Raider 10.

WL though had a tackle for loss on the next play. The offense never got back to the ten and a 32-yard field goal attempt fell short. Later on, a catch by Bryce Bailey got BC to the Raider 27, but the drive stalled. A Raider touchdown pass with 14 seconds left in the half broke the tie.

The first turnover came with 5:19 left in the third following a short Raider touchdown pass that made the score 21-7. Bleckley fumbled, West Laurens got the ball on the Royal 35. Andrew Butler picked off a pass two plays later. A Raider interception though would set their offense on the BC 18.

It resulted in a short touchdown run with 2:52 left. In three quarters of varsity play, West Laurens outscored Bleckley 28-7. JV teams played the fourth, neither scored. Davis caught four balls for 85 yards. Bailey had three receptions for 76 yards. Farrow had 48 all-purpose yards, 32 rushing, 16 receiving. Zach Lassiter completed 8 of 13 passes for 93 yards, one interception.

Joey Green returns an interception during the JV fourth quarter.

On defense, Butler had a forced fumble, seven tackles, and an interception. Bleckley opens the regular season at home against Clinch County August 18. Kickoff is 7:30 pm.
