Though the music stopped, they didn't.

“The show must go on,” is a phrase meaning that the show has to continue, regardless of circumstances. For the BCMS cheerleaders, not only did show go on, it was one of their best.

The Barons were part of an 11-team A/AA middle school division at the Sweet Onion Cheer Classic hosted by Vidalia High School. Supporters in attendance began the familiar chant of “Bleckley County!” as it grew close to time for BC to appear. With Archie Eversole’s “We Ready” blaring over the speaker system, Bleckley was called to the mat.

It was the right song, as they were “ready” to compete. BCMS got off to a good start, sticking early stunts. Out of nowhere, the music stopped. A random technical glitch that sometimes befalls squads. But the squad, despite having several with no prior experience, didn’t miss a beat. Coaches and much of the crowd began chanting “1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8” to help them stay on cue.

And they did, finishing with energy, sharp execution, a great performance that had those wearing purple and gold excited. After a good showing in the in the lib off, they would be excited again when results were announced. Fourth place- Savannah Christian. Third place- Screven County. Second place- Dodge County. First place- Bleckley County Middle School!

The squad with coaches Becky Smith and Liz Brown.

Head coach Becky Smith said she was very proud of the squad’s execution and the poise they showed. BC will close out the regular season October 28 at the Rumble in the Jungle hosted by Swainsboro High School.
