Aliyah Whitehead gets under a ball in centerfield.

BCHS entered the GHSA state championship tournament on a high note, having broken a three-year streak of losing in the sweet 16. But they got off to a bad start against former region opponent Monticello.

Emily Sanders throws from third.

Down 6-0 in the second, Tori Long’s two-out single got BC on the board. Monticello though would get the run back in the third. Two errors factored into four Lady Cane runs in the fourth. Another error accounted for a run in the fifth. Jordan Williams singled to lead off the home half but was thrown out trying to reach third on Aliyah Whitehead’s double.

Caroline Thrower receives the ball at first to get the out.

The Lady Royals stranded five and committed six errors in losing 12-1. Williams was 2 for 2. Whitehead and Jayla Willis each went 1 for 2 with a double. Long finished 1 for 2. Bleckley will seek to stay alive in Columbus at noon Friday against Banks County.
