Tough day on the mat.

Any team in any sport can have a bad day. The BCHS cheerleaders have had a great season, winning three competitions including a grand champion at the Raider Rumble.

But at Saturday’s Central Georgia Region Cheer Championships, they had a bad day. Going in, the squad was dealing still with injury issues, including one cheerleader who had managed to roll her right ankle this week after spraining her left earlier this season.

BC’s entrance was delayed by a good 10-15 minutes due to the mat having to be cleaned because of a cheerleader getting sick during the previous routine. Then, their music failed to start several times, causing head judge Tiffany Walker to waive them off the mat.

After the music was fixed, Bleckley re-entered and began their routine. Things got off to a good start. However, an extension didn’t go up. For the first time all season, one of the stunt groups fell. Then part of the pyramid dropped. Supporters applauded their effort but knew it was a bad day.

Bleckley finished fourth at region. They will compete at sectionals November 10 at the Columbus Civic Center. It starts at 10 am.
