When it came to success on the field and court for many high school and middle school sports in 2017, Frank Sinatra said it best. “It was a very good year.” Here’s a look back at some of the successes at BCHS and BCMS that made 2017 a great year for both athletic programs.

Winter 2017- Lady Royals basketball won region, beating Dodge County in the title game. They make it to the final four. The Lady Barons won the MGMSAA title, beating East Laurens after falling to them in the title game last year.

Spring 2017- BCHS boys and girls tennis teams won state for the first time in school history. Baseball won region, advancing to the elite eight. Girls soccer finishes region runner up for the first time in program history. Girls golf won region, finished fourth at state. Boys golf finished region runner up. Because of that success, as well as success from 2016, BCHS won the GADA Director’s Cup for the first time in school history.

It was a good spring for middle school sports as well. Girls tennis won region, upsetting previously undefeated top seed West Laurens en route to winning the title. Both the boys and girls golf teams won region.

Fall 2017- BCHS girls cross country won region and repeated as state champions, becoming the first team to win back to back state sports titles. Boys cross country won region, finished third at state. Softball finished region runner up, making it to the elite eight. Competition cheerleading finished sixth at state.

For BCMS- Competition cheerleading won region for the third straight, the first three-peat for cheerleading in school history. Lady Barons softball won region. Girls cross country won region, placed third at middle school state. Boys were region runner up, finishing fourth.

Can 2018 equal or top the excitement of this year? It’ll be interesting to see.
