Though the mind of many last night was on the pending winter weather, there was news to come out of the monthly Board of Education meeting. One of the biggest items was the board accepting the resignation of Doyle Floyd.

Floyd, an agriculture teacher for both the high school and middle school, is also sponsor for the FFA program. Under Floyd, the high school won numerous state titles and had other top finishes at district. This past October, the senior forestry team won nationals. According to the minutes, Floyd's resignation will be effective June 30.

The board approved an additional $5,526 for completion of the BCHS gym expansion project. Other personnel matters from the executive session include the board accepting the resignation of Bleckley Primary Parapro Derrick Farrow, effective February 28. Farrow signed with the Arena League's Carolina Cobras football team in December and will reporting to the Greensboro, North Carolina based team in March.

Harsh Patel, a member of last year's state champion boys tennis team, was approved as an unpaid community coach for tennis. Bryan Krieg was added as an unpaid community coach for golf. Added as unpaid assistants for high school golf were Danny Jones (who will coach middle school golf) as well as Shelly Cranford.
