This plaque honored the 1989 state runner-up team that set a record for home runs.

This was supposed to be the year. After making it to the quarterfinals last season, this was to be the year BCHS baseball makes a deep playoff run. They were tabbed early on as a region title contender, a possible state contender as well.

But injuries and an erratic offense have plagued the team throughout much of the season. Chandler Abney, expected pitch for the Royals, missed time due to scar tissue in his arm. Carter Raffield did not pitch until late in the season due to a sore arm and wasn’t in the lineup for Saturday’s deciding game three against Harlem due to a nagging hamstring injury suffered against Fitzgerald last week.

Brody Little’s second inning RBI single drew the Royals to within 4-2. Harlem scored two more in the third. BC loaded the bases with two outs in the home half but did not score. An error and hit by pitch with the bases loaded were part of a three-run Bulldog fourth. A two-on, one out, opportunity in the home half produced no runs.

Harlem added single runs in the sixth and seventh to win 11-2. Bleckley had 10 hits, one baserunner each inning. The 7-9 batters in the order combined for five of BC’s 10 hits. Little and Cody Dennis were both 2 for 3. Abney was 1 for 2. The Royals finish 16-16.
