As it was the last one during the school year, the Bleckley Board of Education had a busy meeting Tuesday night. Special recognition included Bleckley Elementary for once again being named a Title 1 Reward School, the state champion Beta Club Show Choir, other Beta Club State Champions, the state FFA Ag Mechanics Team, FBLA State Champions, the back to back girls state champion girls tennis team, and individual state champions from track.

On recommendation from Superintendent Steve Smith, the board approved the Tentative FY19 Budget with final budget approval to be done at the June 19 meeting. Public comment on the budget will be allowed at that meeting. You can view the tentative budget by going to https://simbli.eboardsolutions.com/Meetings/Attachment.aspx?S=4014&AID=936281&MID=69587

Also approved was FY20 School Calendar and an amended FY19 calendar. According to minutes, the change was done to allow for two more pre-planning days for Capturing Kids’ Hearts training. From the Executive Session, Derrick Farrow, who resigned as a parapro at Bleckley Primary in February, was re-hired by the board as a SPED teacher at Bleckley Elementary. He will be the new middle school boys head basketball coach. Garrett Collins was promoted from BCMS to BCHS head boys basketball coach. According to the revised athletic staffing plan, Brad Davis will be defensive coordinator for Royals football.

The staffing plan document sent by Smith says, “SUBJECT TO CHANGE.” Another change from plan lists the assistant high school competition cheerleading/football assistant coach as vacant. Chara Nobles resigned that position after two seasons. Ansley Giddens, already hired as a BCHS teacher, will also be assistant athletic trainer.
