BCHS returned to the field following their off week to host Marion County. They were without starting defensive back Lane Kitchens due to a concussion suffered at practice during the week. Despite another big game for Nykeem Farrow, too many mistakes cost the Royals.

Down 6-0 in the first, Bleckley drove to the Eagle four, but an interception in the endzone was returned to the Marion 40. Though stopped at the Royal seven, a 24-yard field goal with 21 seconds left made it 9-0. Bleckley scored early in the second via a Farrow touchdown on fourth and 10 from the Eagle 19. A squib kick was recovered at the Marion 40.

Bryce Bailey had 89 rushing yards including 62-yard touchdown run.

But the drive stalled at Marion’s 18 and a 35-yard field goal was wide left. An Eagles rushing touchdown with 3:08 left pushed the lead to 16-7. On the next series Bryce Bailey got free on a reverse. He went 62 yards and scored, but the point after was missed. With under three minutes left in the half, Marion drove to the Royal 9 and got a 26-yard field goal to go up 19-13 at halftime.

It was fourth and one from the Eagle 36 in the third when Farrow went 35 yards, putting Bleckley up 20-19 with 4:11 left. The Eagles though answered on a Travon Mathews touchdown run, his second of the game. They went for two and led 27-20. Farrow got his third touchdown of the game, scoring from six yards out, with 10:24 left in the fourth.

BC though missed their second extra point. Another Mathews touchdown with 8:21 left made the deficit 34-26. After being stopped near midfield, the Royal defense stopped Marion on the BC 35 with under six minutes remaining in the game. Zach Lassiter connected on a 68-yard touchdown pass to Marcus Brown with 5:24 left. A two-point conversion failed but the Royals were within 34-32.

Marion though returned the ensuing kickoff to midfield. They scored on a 19-yard touchdown pass with 3:13 left to go up 41-32. BC would again try to answer. Another Lassiter to Brown connection got BC deep into Eagle territory. Lassiter scored from one yard out, Carson Waters’ point after with 1:40 left drew the Royals to within 41-39. An onside kick was recovered at the Marion 40.

Brandon Acree and Zack Stanley teamed up on this tackle.

A fumble on the 24 with 51 seconds left ended any hopes of a comeback. The Eagles ran out the clock to win 41-39. Farrow finished with 181 yards on 31 carries. He also caught four passes for 29 yards. Bailey had 151 all-purpose yards (89 rushing, 62 receiving.) Brown caught five passes for 162 yards. Lassiter went 19 of 32 for 251 yards.

Marcus Brown races to the endzone for six points.

Willie Harris had nine tackles on defense, six solo. Arkenzio Hayes had seven solo tackles. Ty Williams had five. However, the Royal defense gave up 565 total yards to Marion, including 395 on the ground.

Mathews accounted for 208 of those yards on 24 carries. Defensive lineman Reggie Lopez was lost in the second half after re-injuring his left knee. He injured it previously during the spring game versus Howard.

Region play begins September 21 at Northeast. Kickoff is 7:30 pm at Thompson Stadium in Macon.
