Football on anything besides Friday night for most schools is rare. For BCHS, Monday’s Homecoming game against East Laurens was the first time a regular season contest was played on a Monday. The unusual date came as a result of after effects from Hurricane Michael.

Something else different was the Royals starter at quarterback. Bryce Bailey lined up behind center for the first time since middle school. Zach Lassiter was unavailable due to a concussion suffered against Washington County. Dominic Sasser broke his leg in the same game. Sasser and Lassiter were amongst several Royals dealing with injuries.

Willie Farrow scored his first high school touchdown.

Bailey would prove to be a more than capable replacement. His 45-yard pass to DeAndre Pitts on BC’s third possession set the up the offense with a first and goal from the five. Nykeem Farrow ran it in from a yard out.

Up 14-0 in the second following a five-yard touchdown run from Willie Harris, Bailey connected with Farrow a 15-yard touchdown pass with under three minutes remaining in the half.

The Falcons scored in the final minute to get within 21-7 at halftime. Farrow scored his second touchdown of the game on a 19-yard run in the third. Arkenzio Hayes picked off a pass on the Falcons first possession of the half, returning it to the EL five. Bailey scored on the next play, and the rout was on, 35-7. Raekown Floyd intercepted a ball on the next Falcons possession.

Nykeem Farrow scores.

Bailey connected with Marcus Brown on a 34-yard touchdown pass. His second touchdown run of the game, a 31-yard run in the fourth, capped all scoring as the Royals broke their four-game losing streak with a 56-21 win. Bailey went 6 of 10 for 111 yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions. He also had 111 yards on 14 carries.

Bryce Bailey accounted for four total touchdowns, including this rushing score.

Farrow finished with 119 yards on 16 carries. Willie Chambers led the way on defense with 7.5 tackles, including six solo tackles, a tackle for loss, and a quarterback sack. The Royals return to action October 27 at Dodge County. Kickoff is 7:30 pm.
