City of Cochran celebrating 150th anniversary March 18-23.

The City of Cochran will celebrate their 150th anniversary March 18-23. Here is the schedule of public events.

March 18- "Not Always By the Book," 3-5 pm. A reception at Roberts Memorial Library on the campus of Middle Georgia State University. The history of Cochran and it's cooperative growth along with New Ebenezer College, forerunner to Middle Georgia College, will be explored. Light refreshments will be served. March 19- Comsouth powered by Hargray will present a program in the city auditorium featuring a reading of the proclamation about the city's anniversary at 6 pm. Christopher Phillip Smith as Judge Arthur E. Cochran reading the proclamation, remarks by Ben Dykes as Burrell Dykes. Winners of the essay contest will be recognized and historical pictures submitted will be shown.

March 21- Gospel sing in First Baptist Church sanctuary, 7 pm. Sponsored by Bleckley Christian Learning Center, guest pianist will be Jeff Cleghorn. The community choir will sing songs written in the 1860's, along with stories that inspired them.

March 22- Middle Georgia State University will offer a drop-in tour of Ebenezer Hall starting at 6 pm.

March 23- Cochran Masonic Lodge will hold a pancake breakfast at the lodge, 217 Masonic Drive, from 7-10 am. Cost is $5 for all you can eat pancakes, sausage, coffee, tea, and orange juice. Uniformed law enforcement and emergency personnel eat free. Proceeds will benefit the Joe Lassiter Memorial Christmas Fund.

The Founders Day Festival will be from 2-6 pm behind the Chamber of Commerce on third street. It includes a historical costume contest and judging from 3-4. A street dance featuring the Gage Harrelson band will take place from 6-8:30 pm. The night will be capped by a fireworks display conducted from downtown at 8:30 pm, weather permitting.
