Major personnel moves at BOE meeting.

Three big personnel moves came from Tuesday’s monthly Board of Education meeting. Dr. Andrea Williams, who had been a 49 percent salary employee and serving as assistant superintendent/curriculum and programs, will be retiring. Her resignation, “with regret due to retirement,” was accepted during the executive session.

As a result, Laura Rowland, current BCHS assistant principal, was promoted to Director of Curriculum for K-12. Dr. Trey Belflower, Director of Operations and Federal Programs, was promoted to assistant superintendent. Both moves are effective for the FY20 school year.

With the referendum to continue the ESPLOST March 19, there was news about it in relation to the new primary school project. The board voted to approve the contract for construction manager at-risk as well as architecture services for the project be approved following a successful vote. It was also announced via the school district Twitter Wednesday afternoon that the March 18 public forum on the ESPLOST will be considered a called BOE Work Session if a quorum of members attend.

In other business, following a presentation by Stewart Rodeheaver, President and CEO of Vizitech about a proposed new pathway at BCHS involving Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, and Artificial Intelligence, the board voted to approve a $120,000 contract with Vizitech for the 2019-20 school year. Also approved was a recommendation by Communities in Schools/Family Connection to apply for a grant that would pay for another mental health therapist to be added to the district.

Teachers of the Year for all schools were recognized. Pre-K: Amanda Howell. Bleckley Primary: Samantha Williams. Bleckley Elementary- Selena Smith. BCMS: Aimee Beck. BCHS: Emmie Meadows. Success Academy: Teresa Gray. Jennifer Cole was recognized for being named Special Education Teacher of the Year.
