New Occupational Therapy graduate degree approved for Middle Georgia State.

A new graduate program is coming to Middle Georgia State University, one that will help occupational therapy assistants advance their careers. The Board of Regents for the University System of Georgia recently approved the Master of Science in Occupational Therapy.

According to a release, it will help existing certified occupational therapy assistants (COTA’s) advance to positions as occupational therapists (OTR’s.) Practicing COTA’s with associates degrees will be able to earn a master’s degree in just two years. Online classes and monthly in-class meetings on the Cochran campus will allow students to continue working while pursuing their degrees.

The program is still being reviewed for accreditation. It will be reviewed by both regional and professional accreditation bodies. New faculty and administrators will be hired to support the additional courses. Once the MSOT program is accredited, it will be one of four master’s degree programs in OT in Georgia and the only MSOT bridge program in Georgia.
