BCHS won the GADA Director’s Cup in 2016. For those unaware, GADA is the Georgia Athletic Directors Association, the cup is presented to the top athletic programs in all classifications. Points are awarded based upon progress in state competitions. There’s an overall award, as well as cups for the top male and female programs.
Though it’d been a good year including the girls cross country and tennis teams each winning their third straight state titles, no one had paid much attention to this years standings. However, a check on Monday revealed BCHS trailed Bremen by just 14 points. By Thursday, Bleckley had surpassed them to win 523-522. Superintendent Steve Smith made the announcement at the monthly board meeting.
While the two state titles were big reasons for this year’s success, other sports also contributed. In the fall, softball made it to the second round of state. Competition cheerleading finished fourth at state.
Spring sports were also big. Besides the tennis state title, girls golf finished state runner up. Girls soccer made it to state and track finished fifth at state. View the standings by going to https://gadaonline.net/current-standings
