Georgia DOT announces lane closures on Eastman-Cochran Highway starting July 8.

Though construction-related lane closures will be suspended for the July 4 weekend, people traveling to Eastman next week could be delayed. The Georgia Department of Transportation announced today that lane closures would take place starting July 8 when work on the Eastman-Cochran Highway widening and reconstruction project resumes.

According to a release, singe-lane closures with a pilot vehicle will take place along a six-mile stretch from Dubois Church Road to Old Dodge High Road. It’s being done to allow crews to install pipe that will maintain drainage on the project and setup further traffic shifts within the staged construction plans. Closures will only take place Monday through Friday. The project, which calls for 9.5 miles of widening from Log Cabin Road to south of GA 257, has an expected completion date of early 2022.

The DOT says another widening project, the one began in 2016 which calls for 4.8 miles of widening and reconstruction along the US 23/GA 87 Bypass in Cochran starting north of Foskey Road and extending to Dykes Circle is on schedule. It connects an existing five-lane section south of Cochran to an existing four-lane section north of Cochran. Anticipated completion date is August 31, 2020.

Everett Dykes Grassing Company is the contractor for both projects.
