Bleckley Extension Agent recognized for 4-H service.

Bleckley County Extension Agent Brandi McGonagill was recently named the Georgia 4-H Extension Agent of the Year and was the recipient of both the state and Southeast District William H. Booth Award which recognizes outstanding work by Georgia extension agents in the 4-H program. The Booth Awards, sponsored by Georgia EMC, were presented July 25 in Atlanta at the Georgia 4-H State Congress.

McGonagill has worked in extension for 19 years and serves as Extension Coordinator for Bleckley, Houston, Laurens, and Johnson Counties. For Bleckley, she’s led 10 4-Hes to national competition wins, 79 to state wins, and helped 36 to achieve master status, the highest level for any 4-H member. McGonagill has received 27 honors and awards as a UGA faculty member.

In a release, McGonagill stated a belief in the importance of fostering relationships. She’s served many roles as a 4-H Agent, from educator to confidant. On building relationships, McGonagill said “Many times, we are the only constant and reliable adult presence in a young person’s life, and we become the person they trust and rely on the most.”
