Cheerleaders survive and advance.

BCHS found themselves in a somewhat familiar position Friday morning. For the fifth straight year, they sought to advance to Saturday's GHSA Cheerleading Finals. While there was still frustration over last weekend's controversial region competition, the squad sought to move on from it.

Many braved the elements to come over Thursday night to support BC. They roared as announcer Jeff Hulsey called them to the mat. It was an overall good performance for the Royals. High energy, good motions, tumbling was sharp, good jumps.

However, a stunt group did come down early. And there were issues with the pyramid. That meant a lot of waiting and anxious moments as the Royals competed 27th. Would the things done right combined with Bleckley's high degree of difficulty be enough?

The answer came a couple of hours later when Hulsey announced the top 8. Fourth place, Bleckley! Nervous cheerleaders and supporters yelled in celebration. Head coach Heather Davis was overcome with emotion at the news.

BCHS will seek to build on last year's finish at tomorrow's state finals. It starts at 9 am in Columbus. Bleckley will compete 42nd.
