Inconsistent play leads to swep at hands of Northeast.

BCHS basketball looked to open region play on a high note, welcoming Northeast Tuesday night. Both teams played well at times but neither could build on the good parts.

The Lady Royals jumped out to a 13-point first quarter lead. However, they only scored five second quarter points in leading 25-20 at halftime. Northeast pulled ahead by the end of three quarters and would go up by as much as eight points.

Tesa Taylor’s basket with 1:11 left cut the deficit in half. The Raiderettes though scored the game’s final five points in losing 58-49. Taylor scored 13 points. Markayla Jenkins had 14 points. Alyssa Fortune finished with 11 points. The Lady Royals went 11 of 25 from the free throw line.

Shontavian Manuel had 12 first half points, including eight in the second, helping the Royals to a 25-25 first half tie. Back to back three’s by Terrance Rozier and Amarion Blackshear gave BC a 45-35 lead going to the fourth.

The Raiders answered with a 12-2 run to tie the score with 1:24 remaining. Jhamir Marshall broke the tie with 11 seconds left but a buzzer beating tip in by Northeast sent the game to overtime.

Amarion Blackshear made this three despite the defense.


In the extra session, Northeast was up three with 28 seconds left. A Rozier basket cut the deficit to one. Two more free throws with 11 seconds left pushed the deficit back to three. BC turned the ball over, and the Raiders ran out the clock to win 56-53.

Jhamir Marshall made this game-tying shot even with the collision.


Manuel and Rozier each had 14 points. DJ Sanders scored 12 points. In other news, Arkenzio Hayes will be out for the remainder of the season following shoulder surgery which took place during the break. BCHS plays at Dublin Thursday. Varsity tip time is 6 pm.
