For the second year in a row, the Bleckley County Board of Education and Superintendent Steve Smith were a finalist for the GSBA (Georgia School Board Association) Governance Team of the Year.
Bleckley was one of a handful of districts invited to undergo a process involving a written application, a review of data and verification of facts from an outside validation team, and grading of the application by a national panel of education professionals from throughout the country.
Bleckley was one of nine finalist recognized at an awards banquet held December 4. Gwinnett County was this year’s winner. Other districts recognized were Columbia County, Dade County, Dawson County, Effingham County, Fayette County, Forsyth County, and Oconee County.
Smith said in a statement being a finalist was a great reflection on teachers, staff, and administrators as well as his belief they make the most out of limited financial resources.
"Being named a finalist for the Governance Team of the Year is truly a reflection of the dedicated teachers, staff, and administrators in our school district. To be included in a list of high-performing school districts such as this is an honor. When one considers that we are by far the poorest district of the finalists reinforces my belief that we do the most with the least."
