In speaking about the season at Monday Night’s awards banquet, coach Heather Davis said she struggled to find words to describe it. She did find two words to describe this year’s squad. Mentally tough.

Davis said it was mental toughness that allowed them to not only recover from the heartbreak of the controversial finish at region, it also helped them to get over what was a shaky performance at sectionals the following Friday to have their best of the season on Saturday. That performance got BC third at state, one point away from a state title.

It was the best finish for Davis as a coach, the best for Bleckley since the early 2000’s. Squad members received several items throughout the night to remember the season. They included DVD’s of the season, medals as well as special light displays donated by parents.

Two awards were voted on by the squad. Villarreal was named MVP. The other was a Captain’s Award added by Davis this year because in her words, of the leadership required for competition season. It went to seniors Brown, Lassiter, and McClure.

The “Royal Award” given by Davis to those who would do anything asked went to the entire squad because she said they all did whatever was needed. Davis had special gifts for this year’s seniors. Parent Glynn Pittman read a list of one-word answers texted by the squad to describe Davis and presented her with a “spa day” certificate on behalf of the squad and parents.
After some encouragement to work during the offseason to prepare for next year, the evening ended with one final viewing of Saturday’s finals. Congratulations to all the award winners.
