In many ways, Friday night felt like a fairly normal time at the Cochran Bleckley Recreation Department. Parents and grandparents came, set up in their lawn chairs to watch T-Ball and softball league games.
There were some things different. Signs everywhere, including on the marquee as you entered, asking people to social distance. The playground was taped off to prevent use. Areas near the first and third base lines were also taped to enforce social distancing. Bleachers had been removed. Coaches could be heard telling players to wait outside the dugout for their turn to bat.
Things were even more hectic earlier in the afternoon. After planning to host a Top Gun Sports baseball tournament, it was announced late Friday afternoon the tournament had been cancelled.
Rec. Board Chair Chan Jones issued a statement saying they decided to focus on trying to get rec. ball going and would reconsider hosting tournaments in a couple of weeks if social distancing went well during league games.
League baseball games will be played tomorrow starting at 10 am.
