Lady Royals get good pitching, enough hitting, in season debut.

Usually when the Lady Royals take the field for their season opener, they’ve had several scrimmages against other teams to prepare. But with scrimmages banned due to COVID-19 concerns, BC could only practice and scrimmage among themselves.

The good news is all but one starter returned from last year’s squad. So the team wasn’t without experience together when they took the field against Fitzgerald. That experience would help lift the team to victory.

Addisyn Keel worked out of a two on, two out jam in the top of the third, the third straight inning she was able to strand Lady Hurricane runners on base. She hit a sac fly in the bottom of the third to break a scoreless tie.

Though having the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth, a walk would be the only run scored. Darci Dillard, who scored on the bases loaded walk in the fifth, delivered a two-run single with the bases full in the sixth.

Keel gave up her fifth hit of the game in the seventh with two outs but a grounder to Dillard at short ended what was a 4-0 win. Keel had no walks and struck out five. Jordyn Krieg went 4 for 4. Rebecca Bowling and Reagan Wimberly each went 1 for 2.

The August 10 game versus Westfield has been changed to a JV/varsity doubleheader. Game times are 4 and 6 pm.
