Jahvon Butler had to earn his 98 yards rushing.

BCHS entered Friday’s game against Washington County needing a win to keep their slim region title hopes alive. They were down one at halftime, eight going to the fourth. In the end though, the Royals find their chance to host a first round playoff game in doubt.

Willie Harris also had two quarterback sacks.

Jaden Mobley had his only catch of the game, a 79-yard touchdown reception, on the first play after kickoff. Waco though would return the ensuing kickoff to BC’s 30. A touchdown run on the next play tied the score.

Later in the first, Luke Duffy recovered a fumble on the BC 44. Jahvon Butler scored from eight yards out with 3:25 left but the point after was blocked. Butler’s 30 yard run in the second got the Royal offense deep into Golden Hawk territory. But they were stopped on fourth and seven from the 29.

BCHS employees were recognized at halftime for all they do for the students.

But thanks in part to block in the back penalties, the drive stalled on the WC 19. In the fourth, despite having the Hawks backed up, they got an 84-yard touchdown pass with 11:46 left in the game.

A mini cheer-off was held at halftime. The senior class won the vaunted spirit stick.

BC’s offense would be stopped on fourth down for the second straight possession, stalling on fourth and 10 from the Hawk 16. Waco capped all scoring on a 71-yard touchdown run to hand the Royals their worst loss of the season, 42-20.

Chuckie Stephens missed the second half after a defender fell on him when he went up for a pass late in the first half. Stephens said he was ok, and a trainer said his removal was precautionary. Butler ran for 98 yards on 15 carries. Brown had 62 yards on nine carries.
