Royals roll past Vidalia to open playoffs. ***Updated November 30 with round two info.***

It’d been 22 days since BCHS last played football, a disappointing 42-20 home loss to Washington County. Because of the loss, the Royals were fourth seed entering the playoffs. Their first round opponent was 2-AA top seed Vidalia, a team BC edged 21-14 in September.

Looking for their first playoff win since 2013, Bleckley got off to a hot start with touchdowns on their first three possessions. On their fourth possession in the second quarter, BC tried a fake punt from their own 47. It was ruled short by inches.

With 4:24 left in the half, BC got the ball on their own six. Despite several penalties, Jahvon Butler scored from 18 yards out with just 13 seconds left in the half giving the Royals a 28-0 halftime lead.

The second half kickoff was returned to Vidalia’s 48, but the Indians got an interception on the next play. A personal foul moved the ball to BC’s 33. One play later, the Indians were on the board via a 33-yard touchdown pass. With the two-point conversion, it was 28-8.

Butler provided a quick answer for the Royals. His 43-yard touchdown run pushed the lead to 35-8. On their ensuing possession, the Indians went for it on fourth and four from their own 41 but were stopped.

Chuckie Stephens scored his second touchdown of the game, a 16-yard run, with 5:06 left in the third. Jaden Mobley caught his second touchdown pass of the game with 55 seconds left as the lead grew to 49-8.

The Indians got a four-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth. TJ Mays capped all scoring with his first varsity touchdown, a 49-yard run as BCHS won its first playoff game since 2013, 56-15.

Butler rushed for 183 yards on 12 carries. Stephens had 77 yards on 14 carries. Mays ran for 89 yards on five carries. Mobley caught seven passes for 119 yards. Overall, BC outgained Vidalia 502 yards to 200 including a 364 to 105 yard advantage on the ground.

The Royals will travel to 1-AA third seed Early County for round two of the playoffs. Bleckley lost to the Bobcats in round two of the 2012 playoffs. Kickoff is 7:30 pm on December 4.
