On most Saturdays during competition cheer season, middle and high school cheer parents and supporters are on the road to places like West Laurens, Houston County High School, sometimes as far as Vidalia or Swainsboro to support BCMS or BCHS. But yesterday, the drive for most was no more than a few minutes.
That’s because for the first time ever, a regular season competition was held in Cochran. “Battle at the Kingdom” was hosted by BCHS and held at the BCMS gym. Local supporters came out for the 10 am session to cheer on the homestanding Barons squad.
It was their first performance in over a month due to quarantine and other virus issues. Despite the long layoff, BC had no visible mistakes in their routine. They fed off the crowd’s energy to stay up in their stunts, do their best tumbling.
Their effort and energy would be rewarded by winning first place. BCMS will compete in MGMSAA region February 5 at West Laurens High School. Start time is 6 pm.
That afternoon, BCHS took the floor. Though only competing for scores, another large crowd was on hand to cheer them on. Buoyed by the crowd’s energy, the Royals had a great performance. High energy, good motions, everything stuck.
Though they weren’t the “official” first place team, the squad received their highest score yet this season. BC will look to build on the momentum for region February 6 at Vidalia High School.
This year, due to the Columbus Civic Center restricting access, there will be no sectionals. Bleckley will have to have one of the top eight overall scores from all the divisions competing at Vidalia to advance to the finals February 15. © Copyright 2015 by BleckleyProgress.com |
