After a delayed start, after a last-minute change to the routine, state had finally arrived. BCHS came in with momentum after winning region for the first time in six years.

Another thing in their favor was an extra large crowd of supporters who’d made the short trip to Macon to cheer them on. After waiting an hour then two more squads, announcer Jeff Halsey called Bleckley to the floor.

It was another solid performance by the Royals. While part of the final pyramid didn’t stay up, BC still bought energy and enthusiasm to the floor. Their motions were good, their jumps high.

Only four teams were called to the mat. Bleckley was one of the four. When it was time for results, for the first time since 2004-05 season, Halsey said “Second place, Bleckley County!” There was a loud cheer.

(Photo contributed due to being barred from the floor because of COVID restrictions.) Kneeling L-R: Shykemmia Chambers, Abigail Kirkland, Jayda James, Abbi Belflower, Caroline Pittman. Second row L-R: Ansley Newman, Amiya Smith, Kirsten Villarreal, Gabbi Ragan, Hailey Merritt, Chesney White. Top row L-R: Head coach Heather Davis, Amiyah Thigpen, Shanise Floyd. Taylor Raley, Isabelle Bennett, Graycen Phinazee, Makenli Armstrong, Jasmine Smith, Alexis Johnson, Ebryanna Hall, Assistant Coach Kayla Cosette.

Though there was disappointment BC missed a state title by two points, finishing behind Dodge County, there was still pride over finishing off a great season with a trophy. Congratulations to the squad and coaches.
