Relatively quiet BOE meeting held.

Tuesday night’s monthly board meeting held in the BCMS Media Center was more about updates than anything else. There were no contracts nor grants to vote on. No policies which needed to be updated or adopted.

Superintendent Dr. Steve Smith provided several updates. One of them was on the new voting maps. Smith said House Reapportionment Office had the new voting maps (which were done to help rebalance the districts.) He expects the local legislation to be passed by the Georgia Legislature in the next two weeks.

In the financial report, Smith said with 50 percent of the school year elapsed, 45.2 percent of the budget had been used. He noted ESPLOST collections were up $21,000 for December 2021 compared to last year.

On facilities, Smith said they were soliciting bids to clean BCHS. He said work continues to go well on the new primary school, noting how “blessed” they were that things such as supply chain issues hadn’t snarled the work and the new building was on track to be open on time.

There was one bit of special recognition. Timarco Ross was recognized for being among a handful of students across the state to be chosen for the Georgia School Boards Association Youth Advisory Council.

From the executive session, two former BCHS athletes will serve as graduate assistants for BCMS sports this spring. Sarah Green, track and Ethan Hulsey, baseball.
