Brand out as CBRD Director.

The Cochran Bleckley Rec. Department board met in called session May 4 to discuss issues facing the recreation department. According to an email from board chair Terry Ware, there was consideration to shutting down the rec, either temporarily or permanently, due to financial restraints.

Following a brief discussion, board members decided CBRD was too valuable to the community to close. They decided as a group to do whatever was needed to keep things running smoothly.

The board then went into executive session to discuss personnel matters. After an approximately two and a half hour discussion, the board voted to terminate the employment of director Andy Brand and Kaya Brand who worked part time as an administrator.

According to Ware, the decision wasn’t easy but they felt as a board the department “department needed to take a different approach in order to remain open and to serve the children of the City of Cochran and Bleckley County.”

Ware said day to day operations would be handled collectively by the board until they agreed to fill the director’s position. He noted they continue to have a fulltime employee and a part time employee on staff.
