After a summer of scrimmages and camps out of town, BCHS got to take the field in front of the home fans Friday night in a scrimmage against Hawkinsville. This year’s Royals team would look different in many ways.

Stanley played on both offense and defense.

Gone were quarterback Eli Mullis, running back Jahvon Butler, wideout Jaden Mobley, defensive back Tyler Wilcox, and linebacker Christian Newbern among 16 starters lost to graduation. Friday night would be first opportunity for new starters to get some work/

A tackle.

No official score was kept. While there were kickoffs and punts, there were no returns. Things got off to a good start for BC as last year’s Impact Freshman John Stanley, Jr. scored on a 16-yard touchdown run their first possession.

The offense, despite picking up a fumble at the Red Devil 43 later on in the quarter, couldn’t capitalize. Hawkinsville got a game-tying touchdown pass early in the second. Rod Flagg broke the tie a couple of minutes later but the kick was missed.

Octavious Tate scored.

Hawkinsville missed a field goal at the end of the half. Marus Newson caught a touchdown pass from Kam Everett in the third. That would cap all first team scoring. Second string players scored once in the fourth, making the unofficial final score 27-6.

The Royals will scrimmage Westside August 11 at 7:30 pm.
