Many people recognized at BOE meeting.

Tuesday nights monthly Board of Education meeting held in the high school auditorium was well attended. For a while anyway. Because there were numerous students and groups recognized.

It began with superintendent Dr. Trey Belflower recognizing the board for being selected as a GSBA Exemplary Board. Student and group recognition was next as Kelli Greer and Vicki Speck introduced members of the State Champion One Act Play cast and crew. BC was celebrating a second straight state title.

Recognized next were the Beta Club Show Choir who won state. The large group performance also won state as did trio, both were recognized.

BCHS Beta Club Sponsor Angela Jones then recognized individual Beta Club State Champions. They were as follows. Ninth Grade Biomedical Ac. Test Josie Lanfair; Digital Portfolio Brooke Burch; Division One Digitally Enhanced Photography Hailey Davis; Division 2 Quilling Mia Anderson; Division 2 Woodworking Lillian Barlow; and Division 2 Jewelry Kaley Lopez.

BCMS Junior Beta Club individual state champions were introduced by sponsor Melanie Cravey. Stella Green Creative Writing and Raidan Black Jr. Beta Spelling Bee. Bleckley Elementary Junior Beta Club State Champions were recognized by Kristen Rodgers (One unable to attend.) Brooklyn Carey Digital; Tessa Hoskins Black/White Photography; and Cole Lewis Fifth Grade Math.

Dr. Cindy Felkins, director of student services and Federal Programs, recognized Bleckley Elementary and Bleckley County High School for being named Title 1 Distinguished Schools for 2023. BCHS was also recognized for being named to U.S. News and World Reports Best High Schools list.

Dr. Walt Parks was called on next to recognize the national champion FFA Ag Mechanics and Equipment ID team. Team members were: : James Cairney, Ethan Parks, Andrew Itson, and Alex Norfleet..
Head coach Heather Davis introduced the state champion competition cheerleaders. It was the second title in three years for BCHS. Cross Country head coach Shelly Cranford had lots of recognition to do to wrap up the special recognition section. The high school girls had won their second straight title. They also had the individual state champions in Ella Gibbs and Caleb Darsey.
Cranford also recognized the individual middle school state champions Anna Lynch and Brody Gibbs. All students recognized received a Dairy Queen gift card. That concluded the special recognition part of the meeting.

There were several consent items passed. The FY25 calendar is below and was voted on separately. According to meeting minutes, chair Shanna Evans voted no on it. From the executive session, Johny Moss was approved as a community coach for high school girls basketball. Moss is the father of former Lady Royal Irianna Moss. Ethan Hulsey was hired as a BCMS Parapro. Hulsey was already approved as an assistant coach for BCMS baseball. Hes an alum of BCHS.
