Girls win, boys struggle, versus East Laurens.

BCHS had a pair of key region games against East Laurens Friday night. The girls were in third place behind Swainsboro and the Lady Falcons who were tied for first. The boys were in second place behind the Falcons.

In the Lady Royals game, six points in the final 20 seconds of the first half gave BC a 23-17 lead. Though the lead grew to 13 in the third, EL had cut it to seven by the end of the quarter.

After getting within four in the fourth, BC responded with an 8-0 burst to close the game and win 46-34. Kalyria Jones led with 14 points Ter’Nazia Elvine added 10 points.

Despite a rough offensive first half that included several missed layups and four straight missed free throws at one point, the Royals only trailed 28-24 at halftime. Though the deficit would grow to eight in the third, BC was within four points going to the fourth.

After getting within 45-42, the Falcons closed the game on a 13-2 run to win 58-44 and claim top seed for the upcoming region playoffs. Caleb Farrow’s streak of double digit scoring came to an end. Nykez Farrow had 11.

It will be senior night when Bleckley hosts Telfair County February 5. Tip time is 6 pm with senior night recognition happening between games.
