Induction ceremonies for the first ever Cochran-Bleckley Sports Hall of Fame were held Saturday afternoon at the BCHS gym. This year’s class included former athletes, coaches, as well as others who had impacts on Bleckley sports.

Coaches.


Nominations were submitted via a form. The Hall of Fame Committee chose from the nominations. Committee members are Leanna Noah, Jennelle Floyd, Anthony Jenkins, Sam Barrs, Vic Cooper, Dicky Erwin, Sammy Haupt, Jason Little, and Deborah Turner

Boys basketball 1943.


Some inductions were posthumous. There were those couldn’t attend the ceremony. The first group inducted was “Contributors.” They were Coach Ben Dykes (who built the trophy cases which house past achievements at BCHS as well as some of the plaques), Willie Fair, and Glenn Sawyer.

Other groups were as follow. Coaches. The 1943 boys basketball state champion team. The 1959, then 1965 boys state champion teams. The 2007 girls high school track state champion team.

The 1994 GHSA State Champion cheerleading squad, then the 2002 state champion squad. The GHSA boys 2017 state champion tennis team. The 2017, 18, and 19 GHS girls state champion tennis teams.

The final group of inductees were named “Outstanding Individuals.” They were athletes who enjoyed individual success in their sport, even if their respective team did not win state. Examples included Carl Hall who enjoyed success in both football and basketball.

Nominations are open for the 2025 Hall of Fame Class. Forms cam be picked up in the school superintendent’s office. The deadline for nominations is April 24.
