In a season with shifting players due to commitment issues, a wasted trip last week, the 12 and under girls All-Star team got to finally step on the field for district tournament play in Claxton.

Their first opponent was perenial power Glenville. Bleckley had its only lead after one inning. A bad second inning led to a 16-1 loss.

Caroline Johnson is ready for it at first.

That put the team into the loser's bracket when they took the field versus Screven County. A six-run Bleckley second answered six runs over the first two innings by Screven. Over the next two innings, the teams traded one-run leads.

Maggie Bell catches a popup.

However, it was the fifth and sixth when Screven would score four times over those final two frames to lead 12-9. Bleckley could not rally and saw their brief season come to a close.

Despite the loss, head coach George Holland had praise for his team as well as the parents. He thanked the parents for their support throughout rec. ball and All-Star season.

As to his team's performance, Holland pointed out that this was their first action, and praised the way they did not quit.

The girls 12 and under All-Star team and coaches.

"This was their first chance to play teams outside Bleckley County. No, the first game didn't go well. But the girls didn't hang their heads and we had an awesome second game. I'm proud of them."
