Budget approved, other news from Tuesday's BOE meeting.

It was the second straight meeting for the Bleckley County Board of Education as they met in regular session Tuesday night after having a called meeting Monday. Unlike the called meeting, which was only to discuss personnel, there was action taken on some items Tuesday night.

Among the usual consent items such as fundraiser requests, the middle school, high school, and Success Academy student handbooks were approved as well as the FY25 Student Handbook and FY25 Employee Handbook.

Approved was the renewal of insurance through Georgia School Board Association Risk Management Fund for property/casualty insurance in the amount of $80,390 plus $7500 for Cyber Risk Liability coverage for a total premium of $87,890. The previous policy was $80,210. Superintendent Dr. Trey Belflower said the increase was attributed to higher values across the board. Also approved was Worker’s Comp Insurance with GSBA RMF for $80,225.

From the executive session: Former board member Melissa Stewart was hired for FY25 as FAST Co-Coordinator. There were several updates to the FY24 Athletic Staffing Plan. Vickie Speck, who was already serving as assistant for One Act, was added as Literary assistant. Alex Baughman was named middle school boys head track coach. Quay Cook was named BCMS assistant baseball coach. Former Royal Jeremy Marshall will be a community coach for BCMS track.

Also approved from the executive session was both the superintendent evaluation document and superintendent contract.
