It was the resumption of a longtime rivalry Tuesday afternoon as BCHS opened both home and region play against Dodge County. Until 2021, the Lady Royals and Lady Indians regularly battled for region supremacy.

Tuesday’s game marked the return of BC and Dodge being region opponents. Tied at 2 going to the fifth, Dodge scored four times. Though Bleckley scored twice in the home half, they gave up three more in the sixth.

Taking advantage of a couple of Dodge miscues, BC scored four in the home half. After a scoreless top of the seventh, a one out walk in the home half provided a glimmer of hope. That glimmer was ended as the next batter hit into a game-ending double play.

Bleckley lost 9-8. Four of the team’s eight hits came after the fourth inning. Emmie Williams was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI. Lyric Stephens was 2 for 4 with a triple and 1 RBI. Kadence Carmichael was 1 for 2 with 1 RBI. Region play continues August 15 at East Laurens. Game time is 6 pm.
